A Tiny Cottage Transformation Into a Unique Family Home

When Amy and Billy Reed came upon a modest 1937 cottage in the Sycamore Park Mill Valley neighborhood, it was the small, everyday details that convinced them the 1,036-square-foot house was not a teardown. And so they felt compelled to safeguard the home’s humble charms as they set about adapting it as a home for themselves and their two children, Margaret and Townsend.

By the time they were done, their picture perfect Sycamore Park home was even featured in This Old House. They kept an eye out for detail, because Amy knows that little things matter. They also expanded the cottage to add a kitchen and family room flowing out to their pristine backyard and artist studio. Once completed, they had a 2,150 square foot house that sold in 2020 for $3,300,000.
